Arnold Palmer Invitational | News Article by Scratchcaddy.com

After last week’s weak field at the now-defunct Honda Classic, the PGA tour and a loaded field head to Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The field includes winners Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day, all of whom are playing well at the moment. In the field, is world No. 1 Jon Rahm who is the 7-1 favorite to win the event.

Event Information:

Bay Hill has been the site of some fantastic finishes in the last decade. Over the past 10 years, the tournament has been decided by two or fewer strokes.

This field looks to provide a similar result. Along with Rahm, McIlroy is going off at 19-2, Scheffler at 11-1, and Max Homa, who has been rolling is at 19-1.

The Field is loaded this week, as another elevated event brings 19 of the top 20 in the world. The elevated events this year have been won by the best two players in the world right now, with Rahm winning the Sentry and Genesis, and Scheffler winning the WM Phoenix Open.

There are also some stars making their return to Bay Hill for the first time in a few years. Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele are playing here for the first time since 2020. Jason Day returns, playing well, and has won here before in 2016.

If Rahm is able to take this tournament, he would join some elite company. Fred Couples, Ernie Els, and Hale Irwin are the only three to have won the player-hosted events, these include The Genesis Invitational (Tiger Woods), The Arnold Palmer Invitational (Arnold Palmer), and the Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament (Jack Nicklaus).

The Course has given us some great winners in the past. The par 72 is tipped out at 7,466 yards. It has been the host of a PGA tour event every year since 1979. The course can play very difficult if the conditions are there.

The last few years it has been windy and rock-hard. This course takes ELITE iron play to win in those conditions.

Last year the golf course played as tough as it ever has. Scheffler won the event with an even-par 72 on Sunday to best Tyrell Hatton, Billy Horschel, and Viktor Hovland, to finish -5 for the tournament.

It was in the middle of the run that put Scheffler on the map and led to his Master’s victory.
