Honda Classic
The PGA Tour heads to Palm Beach Gardens for the Honda Classic.
The Fields at the last two tour events were part of the elevated group, and this week we are seeing a less loaded field, considering the top players all played last week.
Last weekend we had 23 of the top 25 in the field, this weekend the best player is Sungjae Im, who is also the favorite.
Sungjae won this event in 2020 and is looking to get back to the winner’s circle. Also in the field are Shane Lowry, Aaron Wise, and Billy Horschel.

There are only eight of the top fifty in the world at this tournament this week.
So this week may be one where we learn a new name or be reminded about how good these guys are. The PGA National is another tough test though. The winner in the last fifteen years has averaged 9.5 under par.
The golf course isn’t long by tour standards, totaling just over 7000 yards. The course is protected by water, bunkers, and the wind. The course features the “Bear Trap”, which is a three-hole stretch from 15-17. It is one of the tougher stretches on tour.
If the wind blows then this golf course grits its teeth. We currently are looking at having great weather, but as we know Florida weather can change quickly.
This week will be all about scrambling. Avoiding bogey when you miss the green is the most critical part of winning at PGA National. Out of the field, there are only 5 players in the field that have a career average below par, and only three have played here more than once.
Again, this is not going to be the biggest and most exciting PGA tour event this year, but we may get the chance to see another player take their career to the next level. Winning a smaller tournament usually can get the monkey off the back of these players who haven’t won yet.
Many players say once you get one, you learn how to win and the sky is the limit for them. You get to play more freely after a win. Worrying about making it into tournaments goes out the window, fear of losing your card is lessened, and financial changes your situation.
Look for a new name to jump to the top of the leaderboard and maybe we’ll see a new star in the making.
