The PGA Tour makes it’s return to the famous TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for THE PLAYERS Championship.
This is another one of the elevated tour events, with a $25 million dollar prize pool and $4.5 going to the winner of this event.
Outside of the majors, this is probably the most high-profile tournament of the season. The 144-player field will include 43 of the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup Playoff. .

The course is also a star of this tournament. The Pete Dye-designed course at TPC Sawgrass has one of the most famous holes in the world, with the island green on the par 3 17th.
We have all seen the short par 3 that requires a stock wedge for these guys, but always winds up giving players fits as the wind and pressure usually grit their teeth. This is a second-shot golf course, that rewards rock-solid iron play.
That is why players like Tiger woods and Fred Couples have had so much success in their careers there.
The golf course sprawls to over 7200 yards for these guys at a Par 72. Many times top players miss the cut if they are even 10% off their game. As stated above, approach shots are key here, and being able to get up and down from missed greens will prove to be paramount.
As for gambling on this tournament, one that gets almost as much action as the Majors, there are some very intriguing options that have some tasty odds.
Last year going into this tournament, Collin Morikawa was the most bet-on golfer, but he missed the cut. He is always a contender on a second-shot golf course, so at 28-1, he is certainly worthy of a look if his putter complies.
Another long shot to look at would be Jason Day. He is currently at 37-1, and has 4 top-fives in his last 5 starts. He has been playing some of his best golf in the last 5 years recently, so he is worth a look, especially with a top 5 at 7-1.
Others to consider are Viktor Hovland (27-1), Will Zalatoris (32-1), and Tom Kim (41-1). I love throwing a nibble on Tom Kim. He seems to have the energy and fearlessness to be able to win a big time tournament, and this could be his winning day.
Also, throwing a few bucks on water balls on 17 and hole-in-one on that hole as will offer some fun that keeps you engaged all weekend
