PGA Championship update

It’s time for another Major Championship as the PGA Tour heads to Rochester, NY, and the famed Oak Hill Country Club for the PGA Championship.

What was always considered the least exciting major championship has gained some juice with its move up the schedule to May. The Event was last hosted here in 2013. It is a 1920s Donald Ross design.

The defending champion Justin Thomas looks to win his third major, he struggled at the Masters, with a missed cut, but looks to get back to form.

This is the second tournament of the year where the LIV golf players will be intermixed with the TOUR players.

Phil Mickelson ( 20000) and Brooks Koepka ( 2200) showed some serious game at Augusta in April, both tying for second place and are playing some decent golf. These two also have won two of the last 5 PGA championships.

Phil has the improbable 2021 win at Kiawah Island while Brooks went back to back in 2018 and 2019 at Bellerive and Bethpage Black respectively.

Last week’s LIV tournament had some serious names at the top with Dustin Johnson ( 2800) and Cam Smith ( 3300) making the playoff. Both showing a little bit of life before they tee it up this week.

Finally getting to Jon Rahm… The number one player in the world, who is playing the best golf of his career. Scottie Scheffler ( 700) and Rahm ( 750) are both prohibitive favorites this week, as they should be.

They are the best two players in the world and are both playing incredibly well.

Is Jordan Speith ( 4000) Healthy?
He missed last weekend’s Byron Nelson, which has become his host tournament over the last few years with an injured wrist. He seems to have taken it off to rest for this week.

Can he complete the career grand slam? If so he will be the 6th player all time to reach the mark.

Other players worth looking at this week are Jason Day ( 2800), coming off his first win in over 1800 days at the Byron Nelson, who has been playing his best golf in years.

Looking at him for a top 10. Cameron Young ( 3000) has all the ability in the world to win in bunches. Will he break through and get his first of what could be many, many majors? Same with Max Homa ( 4000).

He hasn’t been playing his best golf, but this could be his major championship breakthrough.
