PGA TOUR Season
Right after his retirement from international football, the former Real Madrid star announced in broad daylight that he was going to participate in the PGA Tour this year.
It is quite unusual to see a football star changing his career to a new sport and acing it accordingly. After an illustrious career as Wales’ most capped male player and top men’s goal scorer, the 33-year-old retired from football this month.
And without wasting any of his precious time, he announced immediately that he’s going to participate in the ATT Pebble Beach Pro-Am that will be held in California this February.
A total of 156 amateurs will be taking part in the tournament at Pebble Beach, as well as the same number of golf personalities that include US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, three-time major winner Jordan Spieth, and the number five in the world ranking, Patrick Cantlay.
Bale’s time with the Spanish club came to an end when he was pictured beside a banner that said ‘Wales, Gold, Madrid, In the Order’.
This five-time champions league winner strained his relationship with Real Madrid when he was observed making political statements about his country and the club. However, in a twist of faith, he had found himself to be immersed in the game of golf, ditching his football past.
The world number three, Jon Rahm seems to be very impressed at how fast Gareth Bale has shifted his talent. In one interview, Rahm said that golf is the ultimate number one for the likes of Gareth Bell.
This European Ryder Cup player was found to be in shock when he saw Bale at Torrey Pines. This is more so the case because the 2021 US Open champion has played alongside the RM forward in the Pro-Am before the start of the Farmers Insurance Open.
Bale was reportedly seen to warm himself up by hitting nine holes at the court of Torrey Pines. And the world number three, Rahm has said that the former Tottenham Hotspur forward has not consulted him as of yet.
He also protested that Bale has no business being that good when just moved to this new sport. At the Pro-Am, the former RM star had got two strokes, which in itself is hard even for the most active professionals.
Hence, the football forward has now set out to create new personal records, succeeding the active players of the golf community.
