Charles Schwab Challenge

The story so far in 2022 -26.45 UNITS

Enough said about last week the better from a betting point of view, I was watching the golf on Saturday afternoon furious with myself as I broke my 1 cardinal rule in golf betting – If you like a player don’t let his price put you off which is exactly what I did with Mito Pereira that is now the 3rd tournament this year where the week before he was in the Top 10 Strokes Gained off the Tee and followed up with a Top 5. If he had have gone on to win I think I would be buying myself a new laptop this week. In the end as we know Justin Thomas beat Will Zalatoris in a playoff to land his 2nd Major and 2nd USPGA, impressive stuff. Zalatoris will obviously be winning plenty throughout his career he has everything and when he can find his confidence on the short putts will be cashing winners checks instead of runners up prize money.

On to this week and we are at Colonial Golf Course in Fort Worth Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. A Par 70 course played on Bent Grass Greens. This was the first event back for the PGA Tour after the Coronavirus pandemic which was won by Daniel Berger and last year we were on Jason Kokrak who held off Jordan Spieth to take the event. Going back through previous results and course form here does seem to hold true 4 of the last 6 events have been won by players posting a Top 10 finish the year before. The only years that didnt was when Berger won but that was a stacked field with everyone wanting to get back to playing golf and also when Justin Rose won at -20 when unusually for a Texas event was played with zero wind.

Another thing to keep in mind this week especially with a couple of players at the head of the market how will Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris come out of last weeks major obviously very contrasting emotions for the 2 of them but that is something to think about. From my point of view I wont be backing either in fact it may be a play to bet against Thomas in the 72 hole match betting this will be his 3rd week in a row playing so if hit tank is getting empty it wouldn’t be a surprise.

As always I have created a worksheet for this weeks event which also includes a complete history of every player in the fields form on Bent Grass greens for the last couple of years.

Best of luck this week.
